Gathering of Gulosos: the sweetest Portuguese class imaginable featuring @puretuga

⚠️ Warning: this class may cause sudden fluency in dessert! The sweetest Portuguese class, co-hosted by Sali Bina, our favourite Portuguese cultural decoder and foodie known on instagram as @puretuga. We consider Sali our patron saint of Portuguese food. When she is not decoding Portuguese culture on the internet, she's hosting Pure Tuga table, a communal gathering of foodies from all walks of life. At this event, we are making bolo de bolacha, Portugal's iconic no-bake biscuit cake, from scratch as a group, while soaking up the vocabulary that comes with it (pun intended — the biscuits get soaked in coffee, you get soaked in Portuguese). Expect kitchen verbs, measuring words, and a good helping of silliness (as is the Portuguese and Play way). Between layers, we'll take a bite-sized tour through Portugal's regional sweets. Yes, we are having dessert for dinner!And all of this will be happening at PARA Lisboa, the most chic and beautiful new venue in Graça. Portuguese Games Night: Exploring Expressions with @notmiguelagain at Absent

In Portuguese, we don't say that a content creator is awesome, we say "@notmiguelagain é BRUTAL"... and we think that's beautiful! We are teaming up with the biggest fan of cool Portuguese expressions, Miguel Goncalves, to bring you a special event all about expressing yourself - with gusto (or as one might say in Portuguese, com pica!). We will be geeking out hard on all of the best ways to describe literally any situation (or shituation, as is often the case), and you will leave with a belly full of laughs, a mind blown, and a deeper appreciation for this weird and wonderful language. What to expect: Fun games based on Portuguese expressions, to help you learn without trying, or even noticing!An uplifting atmosphere where you can practice pronunciation, reading, and speakingNew ways to express yourself in Portuguese Who is this for? Sip and Speak: The Art of Complaining in Portuguese | Portuguese and Play

Playing with dolls? To learn how to complain in Portuguese? Quê?? At Portuguese and Play we are OBSESSED with finding the most absurd ways to learn Portuguese. Welcome to SIP AND SPEAK. We point you to the bar, where you can grab a drink to loosen up the nerves, and allow the Portuguese to flow more naturally. Non-alcoholic options are also available. What to expect We give you a prompt (e.g. you need to complain to your boss about your coworker's terrible body odour) and you collaborate with another attendee to write a dialogue. You then have the opportunity to present your dialogue to the group, puppeting your dolls, simply reading it or acting it out for dramatic effect! You are welcome to use whatever tools you need to get your dialogue written, and ask for help! Shy folks, despair not, if you don’t feel comfortable reading your dialogue out loud, our facilitators are at the ready to assist! We are teaming up with Moma (@momaliciousss) for Sip and Speak to do the roleplay using her epic dolls as conduits for our expression. Moma can also assist with Brazilian pronunciation and grammar. Jo (@frctrx) will also be there to help facilitate the session, focussing on Portuguese pronunciation and grammar. Flow State Portuguese: the Gender-Bending Game of Thrones that Portugal Lost | Portuguese and Play

Curious about learning Portuguese, but tired of formal classes and pressure to speak before you’re ready? Portuguese and Play is for you! Flow State Portuguese is an event conceived by a Portuguese language learner (Astrid, AKA @falawhatyoumust) for others who are new to the language and culture. The idea is to chill HARD while learning. You are invited to engage in some form of play while absorbing Portuguese through storytelling, poetry and music. You can complete a puzzle, doodle, sculpt, build lego, crochet, fidget, or whatever activity keeps your hands busy and your mind receptive. Theme: The Life of Nzinga In 1583, a girl was born in what is now Angola with the cord wrapped around her neck. By the time she died eighty years later, she had taken two thrones, built an army of 80,000, married her male concubine, kept a court of cross-dressed wives, and forced the Portuguese Empire to come to the negotiating table — twice. Join Portuguese and Play for an evening exploring the life of Nzinga: warrior, diplomat, king, queer icon, and the woman Portugal spent thirty years trying to destroy. History, discussion, and petiscos included. Zero expectations other than to arrive on time. We want to provide relaxed exposure to the language in a welcoming, social setting. Learn Sueca, the Most Popular Card Game in Portugal | Sueca Night at A Fechada

Ever watched a table of Portuguese people erupt into chaos over a card game and wondered what on earth is going on? That's Sueca — and it's time you learned to play. Join us at A Fechada (FKA A Sharada) for a relaxed evening learning Portugal's favourite card game. Sueca is a trick-taking game played in pairs, and once you get the hang of it, it's completely addictive. We'll walk you through the rules, pair you up, and get the cards on the table. No experience needed — just bring your competitive spirit and your best poker face. This is a donation-based event. We suggest 5 euro per person. Sip and Speak by Portuguese and Play | Amora Estudio 9 June 2026

Welcome to SIP AND SPEAK. We give you a drink or two to loosen up the vocal cords (and nerves!) and together we practice some reading, writing and speaking in Portuguese. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic options will be available! Drinks and snacks are included in your ticket price. What to expect To make things easier, we structure the event around scenarios to role play. We give you a prompt (e.g. you need to explain to the vet that your dog swallowed a pencil sharpener) and you collaborate with another attendee to write a dialogue. You then have the opportunity to present your dialogue to the group, simply reading it or acting it out for dramatic effect! You are welcome to use whatever tools you need to get your dialogue written. The Portuguese Way to Say What You Mean | Expressions and Proverbs in Portuguese | Portuguese and Play

Making learning Portuguese... a little absurd! Curious about learning Portuguese, but tired of formal classes and pressure to speak before you’re ready? Portuguese and Play is an event conceived by a Portuguese language learner (Astrid, AKA @falawhatyoumust) for others who are new to the language and culture. At this event, you are invited to engage with Portuguese sayings and proverbs. The Portuguese language has some of the most entertaining and interesting expressions, for example: "Boa como o milho" - "Good as corn" (referring to someone who is hot, or a good catch!). "Vai chatear Camões" - "Go bother Camões" (meaning something is so badly written or spoken that it would offend Camões (Portugal's greatest poet, author of Os Lusíadas). Used when someone mangles the Portuguese language). "Muita palha e pouco grão" - "lots of straw and little grain" (meaning all show and no substance, a lot of talk but little to back it up). We will be splitting into teams to play a game based on Portuguese sayings! And CO-OP Layday (our lovely host) is sponsoring dessert for the winning team! Puzzles & Portuguese is a cosy, low-pressure evening where you build jigsaw puzzles while listening to stories read aloud line-by-line in Portuguese and English. No tests, no drills, no awkward speaking — just relaxed exposure to the language in a welcoming, social setting. This event is designed around language acquisition: learning through immersion and context. By keeping your hands busy with puzzles and your mind relaxed, you can naturally start to pick up the sounds, rhythms, and patterns of Portuguese — even as a complete beginner. What to expect: 🧩 Collaborative puzzle-building in small groups. We will provide the puzzles, or you can bring your own.🎧 Short stories or texts read aloud in Portuguese, with immediate English translation line-by-line. Like, live subtitles. 😌 A calm, friendly environment — no pressure to speak or perform, just absorb the stories.☕ A cosy evening that feels more like a hangout than a class. Time to hang out as well as to learn. Who it’s for: Puzzle lovers, the puzzle-curious or their beleaguered friends Complete Portuguese language beginners, rusty learners who want gentle re-exposure or Portuguese pros!Anyone curious about Portuguese but intimidated by traditional classes.
